OWINGS MILLS, Md.

Medifast, Inc. announced today that Carrie and Charlotte Hoesing of Lacey, Wash., have been voted the winners of the Medifast Mother-Daughter Challenge. Carrie and Charlotte will receive a 4-day, 3-night spa vacation at the luxurious AAA-rated, 5-diamond Phoenician Resort, a $1,000 team-total shopping spree and a one-year supply of Medifast. The contest began on Monday, June 4, 2007 with voting on the Medifast website (www.ChooseMedifast.com) concluding on Monday, September 3, 2007.

Carrie and Charlotte have always been a team and are currently competing for grades as they pursue degrees in accounting together. They also work in the same building as junior accountants. They applied for the contest because Carrie wants to take her daughter on a special birthday trip to Las Vegas next year, and Charlotte wants to ride horses again like she did as a child.

"We were so excited when we found out that we won the Medifast Mother-Daughter Challenge," said Carrie Hoesing. "We had the support of our entire family and community. This has been such a life-changing journey and both Charlotte and I have Medifast to thank."

Carrie and Charlotte are one of three teams that were selected to participate in the 12-week Mother-Daughter Challenge. A total of 59 Mother-Daughter teams applied for the Challenge. Each applicant submitted an essay detailing why she wanted to commit to being healthy. The two other teams selected to participate were Carolyn Greene and her daughter Roshonda Vaulx of New Bern, N.C., and Elaine Farrar of Leesburg, Va., and her daughter Kristin Dascalu of Columbia, Md. Each member of the runner-up teams will receive a complimentary three-month supply of Medifast as they continue on their weight loss journeys.

Carrie and Charlotte lost a combined 84.5 pounds in just 12 weeks during the Mother-Daughter Challenge, with Carrie losing 47 pounds and Charlotte losing 37.5 pounds. In total, the three teams lost a combined 231.5 pounds, averaging out to 3.2 pounds per week per contestant. Each contestant lost an average of 38.58 pounds with Carrie Hoesing's 47 pounds being the most for one contestant.

All three teams chronicled their weight loss journeys on the Medifast website with weekly journals, weigh-ins and updated photos of their progress. Votes were tabulated weekly throughout the competition, with Carrie and Charlotte collecting 44.6 percent of the total votes.
