ANNAPOLIS, Md., Feb. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Kellie T. Pizzico, Corporate Vice President of External Affairs, Medifast, Inc. (NYSE: MED) in Owings Mills, has been selected for the Leadership Maryland Class of 2011. Kellie is married with three young children and currently resides in Westminster, Maryland.  Kellie was instrumental in the growth of Medifast as she managed and helped develop the Medifast Weight Control Center concept in 2004. Today Medifast has over 50 Medifast Weight Control Centers in operation and recently opened 4 Centers in the Baltimore Market.

Medifast was named the #1 small growth company in Forbes Magazine in 2010 and has a 40% aggregate compounded growth rate.  Medifast has hired over 450 Marylanders since 1999 after the restructuring by Chairman of the Board, Bradley T. Mac Donald, an alumni of the Maryland Leadership Class of 2009.

Founded in 1992, Leadership Maryland is an independent, educational, non-profit organization designed to inform top-level executives, from the public and private sectors, about the critical issues, challenges and opportunities facing the state of Maryland and its regions.  Kellie Pizzico is one of 52 accomplished and talented statewide leaders selected to participate in the eight-month program.

Following a two-day opening retreat in April, participants will attend five two-day, and one one-day intense sessions focusing on issues, such as, economic development, education, health and human services, criminal and juvenile justice, environment, and multi-culturalism/diversity.  More than 100 experts representing business, government, education, and the non-profit community will serve as panelists and guest speakers.

"The participants represent a broad spectrum of highly qualified executives from an extraordinary group of statewide applicants," according to Nancy Minieri, president of Leadership Maryland.  "After participating in a comprehensive range of experiences over the next year, these leaders will serve as important participants in the unified effort to shape Maryland's future."  Leadership Maryland is one of 34 state leadership programs nationwide and has graduated over 800 statewide leaders.
